America the... Heaven Help Us

Okay, listen.
I'm just as upset as you are that Donald Trump, a past-reality-show host and glorified frat boy, is America's next President. He's rude, uncouth, immature, and frankly, very degrading of women. His comments are disgusting and crude, and worst of all... he thinks that all of those behaviors are okay. To be certain, he isn't the kind of man you want to lead the most powerful country in the world or be a role model to your kids.
But hear me out.
America thrives on freedom. It's kind of our claim to fame, really. Our slogan. The punchline to every joke in a roast about the good ol' US of A. The biggest part of that liberty, however, is our democracy. We kinda started that trend. You're welcome, France. Specifically, America has a little thing called "peaceful transition of power" that's vaguely important to any self-proclaimed freedom-lover out there. What the liberals and trump-non-supporters everywhere are doing however, is not peaceful. It's embarrassing, really.

So we lost the election... and Donald Trump, yes that one, is our president. Instead of rioting, screaming, and whining about it for weeks and weeks, how about we start teaming up and preparing to keep going? Keep fighting for equal rights and do our best to make sure that he doesn't do what we fear he will. What's the #1 thing that people have been saying about Trump all along? He likes a spectacle, he's a showman. You really think he's going to be able to build a physical wall along the southern border of the United States? No. On the dystopian off-chance that he does, well we'll just have to burn that bridge when we get to it. He's not the next Hitler, he's not a dictator.
I'm not going to lie, I sobbed when I went to bed on election night, the next morning, and all day that day. I was terrified, hurt, bewildered, and more than little ashamed of my country. But now... two months later, when Trump is about to be inaugurated, people are still whining. That's not helpful. Taking every word he says and twisting it into a satanic verse is not helpful. Instead of focusing on the hate and fear that he causes (which is what he focused on during the election and we all dissed on it then) how about we start thinking positive and discussing what we can do from here instead of apocalyptic survival techniques.

I'm attending the Women's March on Saturday. It's a protest, yes. It's directed towards the new powers of the USA, yes. But it is not a anti-Trump or anti-Pence or anti-GOP protest. It is a positive, we can change the world, this is what we want to see demonstration to show the new POTUS what we want.

Bottom line is... save your tears for re-watching Obama's farewell address 300 times and lace up your combat boots because we sure as hell have a lot of work to do. Let's give the guy a chance, shall we? He's pretty awful morally, but that doesn't mean we can sink to his level. Let him decide to make the right decision, to prove us haters wrong. I hope to Merlin that he does.
